The Thrill Of Watching Anthony Hopkins Movies
Born as Philip Anthony Hopkins, December 31, 1937 in Wales. This consummate British actor's free and easy style of acting makes it impossible to believe the amount of preparation he puts into all of his movie characters. In fact, with an outstanding work ethic, Anthony Hopkins has quietly become one of the all time great actors of our time. But, as talented and as good as his distinguished acting career has been throughout the years, it took portraying a psychotic psychiatrist who enjoyed washing down his meal of human body parts with a glass of Chianti to give Anthony Hopkins the fame he rightfully deserved.
The first thing most people think about when you mention Anthony Hopkins movies, is his 1991 suspenseful Hollywood blockbuster, "The Silence of the Lambs". Today, "The Silence of the Lambs" is as popular as ever among movie lovers and remains one of the most requested free movie downloads year after year. The film is a big hit even among my friends who are constantly breaking up my library of free Anthony Hopkins full movie downloads. They borrow my free DVD download of "The Silence of the Lambs" with promises of returning it, only they never do. Then I have to go to my favorite Unlimited Free Movie Downloads site to download it and burn it to DVD again, only to lend it out to another friend.
The actor's portrayal of the insane ventriloquist in his 1978 film, "Magic" was one my favorite Anthony Hopkins movies until I saw The Silence of the Lambs in the movie theater. From the first moment that Anthony Hopkins (Dr. Hannibal Lecter) appeared on the screen I could tell that this was one of those memorable characters that becomes a part of our American culture. Who can forget the sinister Dr. Hannibal Lecter a.k.a. "Hannibal the Cannibal", genius, psychopath, lover of culture, and strangely appealing villain? What surprises people the most when they hear it is the fact that Anthony Hopkins was only on the screen for a total of 15 minutes during his Oscar winning performance as Dr. Hannibal Lecter.
Although this movie was not the big film break that launched Anthony Hopkins sparkling movie career, it did catapult him to much deserved global notoriety and stardom. Although he mostly acted on stage or for TV throughout the 1970's, Hopkins already had had onscreen successes playing Captain William Bligh in "The Bounty", as well as portraying Othello in a movie adaptation of the Shakespeare play "Othello". With that said, I can not think of many actors who could have been as terrifying as Anthony Hopkins was in portrayal of Dr. Lecter, nor many movies that have had as much crossover fan appeal as The Silence of the Lambs. Fans of both modern day slasher films and classic horror movies appreciated the combination of gore and chilling suspense that that movie gave us. And, of course, as a thriller, I can not think of any suspense film that comes even close.
When our local movie theater decided to run an all Anthony Hopkins movie night, they definitely put a great deal of emphasis on his more chilling, thrilling and frightening film's. One of the first films we watched was "Titus", which happens to be one of my favorite all time Anthony Hopkins movies. If you have not had the chance to watch this great film, then please make it a priority to do so. I will even leave a link at the bottom of this page so you can get all of the free Anthony Hopkins movie downloads you want. You can download free movies of your choice all day long if you wish. Back to Titus. It is the probably one of the most appalling and grotesque of all of the Shakespearian plays that have been adaptated for the silver screen. This Anthony Hopkins movie has all sorts of methods of torture and barbarism that you can imagine, as well as Hopkins acting in a role that he has become quite familiar with; a cannibal. The art direction of the film is breathtakingly beautiful which is needed to counteract the movies grotesqueness and brutality.
There are so many other great Anthony Hopkins movies I'd like to talk about but I don't know if I have that much bandwidth. I would like to add that I thought he was superb in "The Bounty", in fact, his acting is always superb whenever he is doing high drama. There is something so charming about him in the role of the fanatically demanding captain Bligh who literally drove his crew to mutiny. When Anthony Hopkins is portraying somewhat pathological characters is when he is at his best. His effortless ability to combine intelligence, culture and immediate peril with such flawless talent leaves you in awe. The weird thing is, the crazier his character is, the easier it is for the audience to relate to. It is as if he has the ability to expose the madness that lurks just below the surface of our minds. He can be both crazy and so believable at the same time. To me, that is what makes watching Anthony Hopkins movies so thrilling.
