There are many wonderful things I love about Christmas time, but one of the best are the Christmas songs that my mom would play all during the weeks leading up to Christmas Day. My mom would either be singing Christmas songs on her own or playing Christmas songs on the stereo. Christmas music, not my mom's singing (just kidding mom), always made the holidays a bit more exciting, and is probably why my wife and I enjoy doing the same things each year for our kids. Music has the gift of bringing back our fondest memories and feelings from long ago, and Christmas songs are no exception.
Some of my all time favorite Christmas songs are the one's that I listened to when I was a child. My mom and my grandmother both had old Christmas albums that they loved to play from song artists that I had never even heard of. That really didn’t matter though, because it sounded good. Some of the classic Christmas songs are still among the best, and I hope to listen to them forever. Musical trends and tastes tend to change, but those classic Christmas songs are still trendy around the holidays, and for a very good reason. Although they don't make these wonderful Christmas albums any longer, most have been re-released on Christmas CD's.
Conversely, there are some newer types of Christmas songs that I enjoy listening to as well. My daughter loves the Wiggles, and they have quite a few Wiggles Christmas DVDs and CDs that we play every Christmas. Some of these Christmas songs are the classics that we all love, and some of them are songs that were written by the Wiggles, these Christmas songs are often very fun. The classic Christmas music sounds great when sung by Greg Page. These Wiggles CDs full of Christmas songs will remain in my home longer after she has outgrown loving the Wiggles, simply because our entire family love's them so much.
We frequently hear Christmas music when doing things like shopping around the holidays. They claim Christmas songs help to get holiday shoppers in the holiday spirit, and they tend to spend more money. Whatever their reason is for playing all of the great Christmas music, I enjoy it just the same because I find that fond memories from my childhood Christmas holidays come back to me whenever I hear it, and it reminds me of what I want the Christmas holidays to be for my children. Christmas magic is not often found in only the gifts, but it is also found in the love of your family and friends and the Christmas songs that we hear each and every Christmas holiday.
