Napster USA/Can/UK - Over 5 Million DMR free MP3 song tracks and albums makes Napster one of our favorite Subscription Music Services. Napster has come along way from being the music industry's number one bad boy to a completely legal player online.
The only drawback about this service is the difficulty we had during the installation process. No matter how hard we tried, we could not keep the Napster Media Player from opening up on Windows startup. It is something we can live with but I do like some say as to what goes into startup and what doesn't.
Napster USA/Can/UK offers two subscription plans that you can join. They are Napster Basic for $12.95 per month and Napster To Go which costs $14.95 per month. Both plans give you unlimited music downloads to your personal computer. With the To Go plan you can also transfer music to your MP3 player or cell phone. The catch here is, if you ever cancel your subscription, all of your downloaded music will no longer be playable.

Napster USA/Can/UK allows you to buy your music downloads outright. These are yours to keep even if you cancel your subscription with either Napster Basic or Napster To Go. The Napster Light store does not require a membership.

The music database is updated weekly with the newest releases. eMusic - eMusic is the most generous of all the Subscription Music Services as they are constantly coming up with great specials. For instance: Just for using their free Internet browser toolbar, they give you one free MP3 daily. I would use their Internet browser toolbar without the enticements because it is very convenient. Another fantastic bonus is the 25 free songs you get just for signing up for their free trial. eMusic is one giving Subscription Music Service!
eMusic's database of over 2 million songs and over 100,000 albums is not the largest by far, but they are all unprotected MP3's that you get to keep forever which is a major plus. All of eMusic's music downloads are compatible with all MP3 players, Zune and iPod, another plus.
$9.99 per month, lets you download up to 30 songs plus one audiobook each month. These are yours to keep, even if you cancel your membership. Sounds to good to be true, but that depends on your music tastes. eMusic has music for downloading in every conceivable genre there is, but a large portion of their music is from independent artists. These are not bands and singers that you hear everyday on your favorite FM station. These are artists that just haven't gotten the big break yet, but believe me when I tell you, they sound awesome!
As a true music lover, it does not matter to me how much a band makes. It's all about the music and if the music sounds good, if the music sounds professional, then who cares how much the band earns per concert. But, for those of you that need to see "bling", eMusic does have top selling artists, songs and albums.
