One of my all time favorite movies is called the Fight Club. The first time I can remember watching the Fight Club DVD was at my friends house. Every time that I went over to his house we would watch it, which was at least once a week. Did you ever watch a movie so much you started saying the dialogue lines along with the actors and actresses in the movie? It was that way for me and my friend with the Fight Club. We now know the entire Fight Club script by heart. Our other friends crack up laughing as we recite the Fight Club lines back and forth to each other. It's been a while since I've watched the Fight Club DVD , but bet I still remember all of the lines! Most movie goers looked at the film as pure fiction, but if you have been watching the news lately, you will see that real-life fight clubs are popping up all over the country. My question is, did the writer know about real-life fight clubs prior to writing the movie's script, or is this new secretive fighting phenomenon a result of people mimicking the movie?
The Fight Club DVD has everything a guy could want in a movie. Conversely, it is far from being a chick flick. It has everything a guy likes to see in an action movie, fighting, blood and gore, explosions, sex, violence and a touch of lunacy. However, the Fight Club DVD is more than just an entertaining action film. The movie points out that there is something terribly wrong within our society today when highly educated people feel the need to revert to violence and cruelty just to relieve some of their tension and aggression. Sadly, while the Fight Club movie pointed out society's diseases, it never offered up a cure. Nonetheless, knowing that there is a disease is the first step to finding a cure for it, and the Fight Club DVD did just that.
With that said, I feel the Fight Club DVD is proving to be more destructive to society than helpful. After watching the Fight Club DVD several more times and reading the Fight Club book, I have spotted a great deal of flaws in it. As a dramatic action movie, the Fight Club is fantastic, but the way it glamorizes the darker side of our society is repulsive. To prove a point, an Arlington, Texas high school student who is a fight club member refused to participate in a match. As a result for his non-compliance to fight club rules, he was severely beaten by other members of his club resulting in a brain hemorrhage and several broken vertebrae. Soon after, real-life fight club DVD's of the brutal beating were being sold online resulting in the arrest of six teenage members of the fight club. That is just one sickening example, there are many more. How does beating each other senseless, pulling teenage pranks or destroying public and private property cure anything? How does proposing more disease cure the sickness of our society, which is exactly what The Fight Club DVD suggests we do. Fighting fire with fire rarely works, and I believe Jesus Christ would agree!
Nevertheless, the Fight Club DVD is definitely a movie you really should see. Not just because is it a great movie, but it may help you to understand why fight clubs are a part of our culture these days. Good or bad, The Fight Club DVD is one of those movies that is a must see.
