Even as the Godfather Don Michael Corleone sets out to gain control the Mafia’s Five Families of New York, the film flashes back forty years to the streets of 1917 New York City’s Hell's Kitchen, where Vito Corleone (Robert De Niro) quickly learns the ways of the local Cosa Nostra (The black Hand) from his friend Clemenza (Bruno Kirby). Vito becomes the new man to be feared and respected, after killing the local Cosa Nostra boss with a gun wrapped in a towel. As the film jumps forty years forward again, we find a grim Michael Corleone negotiating with his new business partner, Miami crime boss Hyman Roth (portrayed by legendary method actor instructor, Lee Strasberg in his first film role) discussing a move on Las Vegas. Michael is also forced to testify in front of a Washington Senate committee. Others reprising their roles from The Godfather Part I movie are: Robert Duvall (Tom Hagen), Diane Keaton (Kay Corleone), Talia Shire (Connie Corleone), and John Cazale (Fredo Corleone). Robert De Niro is amazing as he mimics the mannerisms of the great Marlon Brando's Vito Corleone from The Godfather Part I.
