J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit will be split into two parts. The first of the Peter Jackson produced films is scheduled for release in December 2012 and the second in December 2013.
THE LORD OF THE RINGS Oscar winners Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh are all set to return to Middle Earth with not one, but two films on J.R.R. Tolkien's classic novel THE HOBBIT. Peter Jackson has turned over the directing duties to Guillermo del Toro. There is little to no real news on who The Hobbit's cast is going to be, but it is rumored that at least 3 stars from The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy will be returning. It has also been rumored that the brilliant Scottish actor, David Tennant of Doctor Who fame may be slated to play the part of Bilbo Baggins, but as yet, it is still a rumor.
There is an official casting call out to the major agencies for the lead roles in The Hobbit for the parts of Bilbo Baggins, Thorin Oekensheild, Gloin, Fili and Kili, Drogo, Bard, Radagast The Brown, Itaril, Primula Brandybuck and someone to be the voice of the dragon, Smaug. You will notice that several key characters roles have been emitted from the call including Gandalf the Grey (Ian McKellen), Gollum (Andy Serkis) and the elf lord, Elrond Half-Elven (Hugo Weaving). Rumors are that the actors from The Lord of the Rings trilogy will be reenacting their characters in The Hobbit.

For now, the only definite news regarding The Hobbit are that it is being directed by Guillermo del Toro and produced by Peter Jackson. For now, please enjoy this 'The Hobbit" free movie trailer and in December 2012 I hope to see you in Middle Earth once again. If we all beg hard enough, maybe we can get Peter Jackson to film J.R.R. Tolkiens 'The Silmarillian'. That would be nothing short of AWESOME!
